The Ever-Changing You:
Why Sock Management Matters
Change is constant
Our bodies, like fluid-filled balloons, are always adjusting. One day your watch feels snug; the next, it’s loose. Rings slip on and off easily, then suddenly feel tight. Our bodies are always in motion—literally!
Limb Changes
When dynamic bodies meet rigid prosthetic sockets, adjustments are crucial. Diet, activity, weather, and health all impact fit daily. It’s like squeezing a squishy stress ball into a fixed box—it has to be just right.
Sock Management
Prosthetic socks are key to comfort and fit. They adjust for natural body shifts, keeping everything secure. Managing your socks ensures balance between flexibility and stability—a happy fit starts here!

Sock Combinations and Rules
-
Generally you will be given 1 ply, 3 ply, and 5 ply socks.
-
Socks can be donned over any gel liner. Only specially designed socks should go under a liner.
-
Add/remove 1 ply at a time. Wear the thickest ply first.
-
If you are wearing over 10 ply, come in for a consultation.

Difficulty removing prosthesis: Apply soapy water to your skin and slowly work the limb out. Contact the office for a follow-up appointment.
