Your Prosthesis & Liner Care
The Ultimate Guide to Keeping Things Fresh!
Taking care of your prosthesis and liner doesn’t have to feel like a chore—it’s all about keeping things clean and ready for action! Here are some tips and tricks that will make you a pro at prosthetic care.

Prosthetic Cleaning: Give It a Little Love
We want you to live life to the fullest. Go out, have adventures, and use your prosthesis with confidence but your prosthesis deserves some TLC to stay in top shape along the way. Here’s how you can keep it squeaky clean:

-
Daily Wipe-Down: Grab a warm washcloth and give your prosthesis a quick wipe every day. Mix water with 5% mouthwash or 70% isopropyl alcohol for some extra disinfecting power. A spray bottle makes this super easy!
-
Sand Adventures: If your prosthesis has been playing in the sand, wipe off as much as you can and rinse with fresh water, drying thoroughly.
-
Saltwater & Chlorine Splash Zone: After a dip in the ocean or pool, rinse your prosthesis with fresh water and dry it thoroughly. Unless your prosthesis is IP68 or above, salt and chlorine are not your prosthesis’ best friends.
Deep Cleaning SOS: Can’t get rid of the sand or debris? Call us for an appointment, and we’ll give your prosthesis a deep clean in our lab.
Gel Liner Care: Treat It Like Royalty
-
Store Correctly: Never leave your liner “inside out”—the gel can collect dirt and irritate your skin.
-
Alternate Liners: Switch between two liners daily so each can recover. Most insurance covers two liners per year; replace them yearly.
-
Daily Cleaning: Rinse with warm water every night. Use mild, unscented soap if needed, and rinse thoroughly. Pat dry.
-
Disinfect Weekly: Wipe the gel side with 70% isopropyl alcohol twice a week, then rinse and dry.
-
Sweat Management: It takes 6–8 weeks to adjust to liners. For extra sweating, use a non-aluminum antiperspirant (like Certain-Dry) at bedtime. During activity, take breaks to dry your liner or switch to your second one. Sometimes a special wicking sock is needed. You can also try our Cool Flow Control for your next socket design.
-
Replace When Needed: If your liner cracks, wears out, or causes irritation, contact us for a replacement. Your liner may be under warranty.
