Join Team PSI in the 28x28 Mobility Challenge: So EveryBody Can Move

Why Support a National Campaign?

In July, Team PSI is participating in the 28x28 Mobility Challenge. This initiative supports the national campaign, So EveryBody Can Move. You might wonder: why donate to a national effort instead of just focusing on California? It’s a great question, and one we’ve thought a lot about.

When we approach fundraising for cancer research, we don’t limit our support by state lines. Progress anywhere helps people everywhere. When other states succeed in passing mobility legislation, it puts real pressure on California lawmakers to act. Every victory in another state gives us new templates, stories, and momentum to move forward here. And let’s be honest, life is unpredictable. What if you move? You’ll want those protections and opportunities wherever you go!

The Need for Change

But there’s an even bigger reason to support this cause. People with limb loss aren’t given the same opportunities to learn, play, and move. As a society, we tend to set the bar lower for people with limb loss or other disabilities. The numbers are staggering: people and children with physical disabilities are almost twice as likely to face health issues due to weight and lack of aerobic activity.

At our recent mobility clinic, we saw firsthand that the right tools, like prosthetic running blades or swim legs, just aren’t widely available. We always remind people: a prosthesis is a tool. With the right tools, we can put in the work and unlock our potential.

Unlocking Potential

Imagine if swim prostheses were the norm. Kids could swim with their friends. If running blades were standard, everyone could learn to run from the start. Maybe you don’t want to run, but you want to coach your child’s basketball team, play soccer in the park, or kayak with friends to see sea otters. People with limb loss can do all of these things; they just need the right tools. Why limit what’s possible?

The Power of Community

That’s why we walk. That’s why we push our own mobility limits. Most of us have a little competitive streak, so why not channel it into a friendly competition? Let’s encourage each other to move more while raising money to fight for legislative change. It takes resources to make a difference, but together, we can do it!
