This is Leticia's Story
Nik's road to amputation is complex. Here is Nik's Story, in his words: "Immediately after transitioning out of the Marine Corps, I travelled to Ukraine to teach tactical medicine and distribute much needed emergency medical supplies with a US based nonprofit organization. After a training session with a unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, I was distributing supplies when we were struck by Russian missiles. My friend and fellow volunteer, Oscar, was killed along with several others and I and doxens of others were wounded. I had massive wounds to my right leg which later became infected and necessitated the amputation of the leg above the knee. After several arterial re-bleeds and brushes with death in the hospital, the doctors were finally able to control the infection and use skin grafts to close the wounds around my residual limb. After a few complications and setbacks I was able to start using a prosthetic. Now the rest of everything begins! I will work hard to keep these new "habits". This is just the start of his new story! He has been Conscientious, Consistent, and Confident. We think he will continue improve quite well! No limits for him. We look forward to seeing him fly again.
